Friday at the High

Every third Friday the High Museum of Atlanta extends its hours to 10 pm and has live jazz in the atrium.  Music, drinks and art make for a great time!  It is geared towards, but not at all limited to, young professionals.  Friday Jazz is free with museum admission of $14.50 and free for members.  Same as for museum admission, member’s guests pay $5.

In addition to jazz and drinks, from 6 pm to 9 pm Drawing in the Galleries is offered.  You are invited to sketch live clothed models in the gallery.  All levels of skill and experience are welcome!

This is a great idea for a date or night out with friends and family.  Come and enjoy the music and mingling!  The jazz can be enjoyed throughout the main wing of the museum as you walk up the winding ramp exploring different exhibits.

I went in December with friends and family for my birthday and had a wonderful time.  The High Museum’s central location made meeting up easy and we all love live music.  We have varying artistic interests so it was great to wander through different exhibits.  It was a lovely opportunity to admire the beautiful collections the High has to offer as well as learn about the tastes of my friends and family.  It works well for small or large groups because you can break off and explore whatever catches your interest without getting too spread out.

Friday, February 17th is the third Friday of the month and Beverly “Guitar” Watkins will be the featured music.  This legendary blues lady can play the guitar from behind her head and seriously belt out powerful songs. She has rocked venues for five decades and will be great to experience.  Friday Jazz opens at 6 pm and there is limited seating but plenty of standing room.
